My mom is in that picture.  She also was queen the following year from this picture.   She was quite stunning.   I have a portion of the program for the activities that year.   People from Little Mexico were encouraged to decorate their front porches with bunting , participate in parades and in the entertainment at the park.  It used to be a very big deal back then.   The judges for the beauty pageant were the mayor, chief of police , presidents of the unions and other dignitaries.  The cape and crown mom wore were very beautiful.   Her dress was totally beaded and her septer and crown were made of fake pearls., but still very beautiful.  We were very proud of her.
