Truth and Photography

Hour 2: Is photojournalism a medium of truth or a tool of the propagandist? It all depends on who you ask and who’s shooting the photos. We’ll examine the evidence this hour with Academy Award-winning documentarian Errol Morris. His new book is “Believing Is Seeing: Observations on the Mysteries of Photography” (The Penguin Press, 2011). His most recent film is called “Tabloid.”

    Always argued with editor about what to do if you were covering a war and got a powerful shot during a battle. Should they run the photo if that was only a small incident in what was overall a quiet peaceful day? Photo symbolizes the war, is like a poem…not simply who, what, where, when and how. But relies on words to tell the whole story.
