Hour 1:           What do bats contribute to the ecology of Texas and how many different species share our state? We’ll talk this hour with David J. Schmidly, recent President at the University of New Mexico and co-author of the new guide “Bats of Texas” (Texas A&M University Press, 2012).

    An excellent program to assist in educating people of the importance of bats in our ecosystem, their assistance in crop production by eating insects that would cost farmers and ranchers millions of dollars annually in pesticides, and they bring thousands of visitors each year to the Austin area to view the nightly flights from their nesting place under the Congress Avenue bridge to search for food which adds a considerable amount of revenue to the Austin area.
