The Challenges of Raising Boys

Think 7 Comments 15

Hour 2:           Do boys need special attention in today’s society? What can parents do to help ensure that boys get off to a good start on a promising future? We’ll talk this hour with attorney, author, and advocate Lisa Bloom. Her new book is “Swagger: 10 Urgent Rules for Raising Boys in an Era of Failing Schools, Mass Joblessness, and Thug Culture” (Vantage Point, 2012).

Lisa, thank you for reporting on this urgent topic. What can we do, collectively as a society, to teach boys better self control and deeper caring? It seems that these personal qualities are the missing link to helping boys become better men.

I’m reccomending this to my children to help my childrens children, if you know what I mean.
Great topic, you made it all so practical.

What an outstanding interview – Ms. Bloom was not only passionate about her subject, but was well informed and able to translate something like “dad reading to his son” into a national context. While I am not a parent, have already passed this on to colleagues and friends and will be gifting a book in lieu of a toy to our 3 year old nephew this weekend. Kudos & keep up the great work!
