Who Stole the American Dream?

Think 24 Comments 2

Hour 1:           Why are average middle-class Americans struggling so hard to just stay afloat and which political and economic policy decisions of the past have led our country to its current state? We’ll talk this hour with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Hedrick Smith, whose new book is “Who Stole the American Dream?” (Random House, 2012).

Getting this book! I listened to the program and I agree with Mr Smith. We are going to have to really tear down and reconstruct our entire economic system, starting with getting rid of lobbyists. Americans are going to have to face some hard realities in order for this country to pull out of the nose dive we’re in. And it’s only the citizens that can do this. Our politicians are going to drive this country into the ground.

After listening to a portion of the interview with Hedrick Smith, I’ve finally stopped being embarrassed about the state of our family’s finances. I haven’t had a permanent full-time job since December 2008. Neither has our Millennial-age son. My husband commutes to south Fort Worth from Pleasant Grove daily, a 100-mile round trip, just to keep a job that pays little more than half what he made before a hostile takeover of his previous employer. We had to file bankruptcy in 2010 because of catastrophic medical bills. This is not the America my parents taught me to love. This is not the America I believe in. I’m going to follow Hedrick Smith’s advice and do something about it.

He seems to have better idea of what is going on than our political experts, who seem to be in the pockets of big business and special interest. We can start by not allowing the current leadership of the republican party get full power.
We must pay people enough to pay bills save for retirement, and pay taxes.

Listened to the show as it aired this evening as a repeat. Thank you for the repeat show which makes my late evening drive home from work the best part of working late! I downloaded the e-book as soon as I got home. This book could very well be the catalyst for a grass roots movement to right what’s wrong with America, starting with educating the public and helping them understand what is really going on!!

Lobbyists have to go !! I was also deeply moved by this radio interview and bought the eBook. I emailed Hedrick Smith yesterday and he replied to me, that was so gratifying !! The observation I want to make to everybody is that there are “Entrepreneurial Makers” (the creators of brands and the founders of industries and technologies) and there are the
“Entrepreneurial Takers”. I think most of the problems stem from these
    “Entrepreneurial Takers”.
