DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS

North Texas Public Broadcasting, Inc., based in Dallas, TX, seeks a Director for Marketing & Communications. The station is a joint licensee public media organization that broadcasts KERA TV (PBS affiliate), KERA 90.1 (NPR affiliate, news and information format), and KXT 91.7 (noncommercial Triple A music format), and has three primary Websites (kera.org, kxt.org, and artandseek.org which is dedicated to arts and cultural reporting and related resources). The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience developing, establishing and maintaining marketing and communication strategies that will build overall brand-value awareness, increase audience engagement with programs and services, and strengthen public financial support.  

Job Responsibilities
  • Support the EVP for Marketing & Membership, and partner with internal stakeholders to develop and manage integrated marketing communications programs and activities based on organizational goals and objectives
  • Supervision of 2-3 direct reports
  • Gather information and conduct research as required to inform marketing communications strategies and messaging
  • Brand development and promotion in ways that are innovative, creative, distinctive, relevant and essential to target audiences
  • Lead the development of marketing plans, strategy development, identification of key metrics, tactics, budgets and execution of initiatives
  • Create messaging, content and lead creative concepts to deliver effective cross-platform communications.
  • Coordination of all social media marketing initiatives; involvement with online properties and those in development, including content creation, management and analytics
  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships that advance content, branding and public awareness objectives
  • Complete evaluative reports as required
  • Represents the organization within the community and stakeholder groups

Minimum Requirements:

  • An understanding and appreciation for the mission and content of public television and radio.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in marketing communications, including experience in a management role. Must possess solid command of multiple marketing communications disciplines (i.e. branding, digital/web, advertising, marketing, media relations, research, events, etc.)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Capable of personally creating, writing and editing compelling communications and content in various forms and coordinating and overseeing the work of other staff across all communication platforms
  • Superior critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities a must
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills and experience managing and executing marketing communications campaigns aligned with organizational goals and metrics
  • Proven ability to develop high-level branding and positioning concepts and translate them into actionable strategies and tactics
  • Ability to collaborate and build strong relationships with a diverse range of cross-organizational partners and external stakeholders
  • Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative research data to inform decision making.
  • Understanding of social media and ability to adapt to developments in new media
  • Proven ability to manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Ability to make timely decisions and meet deadlines

ENGINEERING OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR

North Texas Public Broadcasting, Inc. (KERA | KXT), the Dallas/Ft. Worth PBS and NPR affiliate, has an opening for a Broadcast Engineer.  This position provides engineering maintenance and support for all television and radio broadcast systems and equipment used by North Texas Public Broadcasting (NTPB) and supervises workflow for the engineering department.  This position has no direct reports; however, the Engineering Operations Supervisor will provide input on staff evaluations.  The facilities at NTPB include KERA-DTV, KERA FM, KKXT FM, and TV and FM translator sites.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides technical and customer support for all engineering and broadcast related departments within NTPB.
  • Assigns tasks and projects to the engineering staff
  • Schedules and coordinates all preventive maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance of HD television & radio broadcast and production equipment (digital and analog) located within NTPB’s facilities, including all remote sites.
  • Will be required to fill in on-call duties for vacation relief. 
  • Performs routine checks of critical broadcast and transmission equipment to ensure operational performance meets required specified standards.
  • Monitors and corrects or improves the quality of the video/audio/data signals.
  • Actively diagnoses and solves broadcast video, audio and data systems problems.
  • Acts as System Administrator on critical broadcast and related systems.   
  • Maintains knowledge of the operation and maintenance of all NTPB broadcast and production systems.  Maintains departmental records which include, but are not limited to, Engineering Shift Logs, Engineering Service Request forms, parts and equipment inventories, equipment maintenance & repair histories, etc.
  • Ensures that system and equipment documentation is current and implements processes to continuously review and improve documentation. 
  • Specifies, demonstrates and evaluates new television & radio broadcast and production equipment.
  • Proactively communicates the status of broadcast engineering issues to Engineering Management and to all Broadcast Engineering customers.
  • Leads the engineering team, by example, to continually develop and improve processes used to support Broadcast Engineering customers.
  • Accepts new assignments and technological challenges as required by an ever changing dynamic broadcasting environment.

Minimum Requirements:  

  • Minimum of two years technical training and/or a minimum of 10 years experience as a maintenance engineer, with HD television broadcast systems, including analog and digital video and audio systems.
  • Minimum of two years as a supervisor or project leader in a broadcast radio/TV environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in troubleshooting and repairing broadcast systems, broadcast transmission equipment and broadcast related computer systems and servers.
  • Be proficient in the use of related test equipment including, but not limited to, waveform monitors, vector scopes, multi-meters, oscilloscopes, test signal generators, spectrum analyzers, data and network analyzers etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer networking systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Must be able to work in a multitasking environment.
  • Must be able to lead a team to successful task completion.
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to lift and move equipment as required.
  • Must possess or be able to get a Texas drivers’ license.

GENERAL LEDGER STAFF ACCOUNTANT

North Texas Public Broadcasting Inc. (KERA | KXT), the Dallas/Fort Worth PBS and NPR affiliate, has an opening for an Interim General Ledger Staff Accountant.   This position reports to the Controller and is primarily responsible for generating monthly financial statements and assisting in preparation of budgets and forecasts.  This position is responsible for performing cash analysis, bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, as well as providing technical support to other accounting personnel as needed.  The GL Accountant is responsible for posting all general ledger entries to the organization’s financial software.

Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinates the monthly closing of books with the A/P Specialist, A/R Specialist, and Membership Database Manager.
  • Prepares financial statements for review by Controller.
  • Prepares all monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations for review by Controller.  Maintains backup schedules for all balance sheet accounts.
  • Maintains PP&E detail and identification.  Maintains depreciation and amortization schedules.
  • Maintains a schedule for month end closing and posts all recurring and special journal entries.
  • Assists with preparation of work papers for annual audit.
  • Special reports and projects as needed

Minimum Requirements
The successful candidate will have a BS/BA with Accounting major (or equivalent experience), as well as 2-4 years experience in an automated accounting environment.  Knowledge of not-for-profit accounting preferred.    Excellent analytical skills also required.  The individual must have strong organizational skills, be detail oriented, mange time efficiently, and have effective verbal and written communication skills.

TELEVISION PRODUCTION INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

North Texas Public Broadcasting (KERA/KXT) is seeking a student to spend the summer assisting the TV Production staff as a production intern. The intern will work with TV Production staff doing research, transcribe video, scanning photos, setting up/shooting/breaking down location and studio shoots, assist with pre/post production for Think TV, Art&Seek segments, and Think & CEO Television tapings, prepping materials for web, DVD, and social media, and other duties as assigned. The intern should be able to assist on location shoots and perform some editing assistant duties such as digitizing and stringing out sequences from transcripts. The qualified candidate should also have basic knowledge of Final Cut and/or Avid editing systems.

 The intern will report to the TV Production Department working with producers, editors, and videographers on different projects. This internship opportunity with NTPB is an unpaid opportunity and no compensation will be given. To qualify for an internship with KERA/KXT, the individual must be currently enrolled full-time as an undergraduate; have completed his/her freshman year; be returning to college or currently be a full-time sophomore, junior or senior; and be carrying a minimum of 12 credits per semester. RADIO INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: THINK/ANYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW

North Texas Public Broadcasting (KERA) is seeking a student intern to spend the fall 2010 semester assisting with the daily production of our radio programs, Think and Anything You Ever Wanted to Know. Think airs Monday - Thursday from noon to 2pm. Anything You Ever Wanted to Know airs Fridays from noon to 1pm. The Think/Anything intern would work 10 to 15 hours a week to assist the production team with various tasks and duties related to production and will report directly to the senior producer.

RADIO INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: NEWSROOM INTERN

North Texas Public Broadcasting (KERA) is seeking a student intern to spend the summer assisting the reporting staff as a newsroom intern. The newsroom intern will assist the reporting staff with research, tape gathering and editing, program updates for KERA's website, and other duties as assigned, such as attending press conferences and learning interviewing skills. KERA 90.1 is currently ranked 13th in this market, the 5th largest media market in the country. We reach over 300,000 listeners each week with the most thoughtful, engaging, unique and in-depth news and information programming available on the radio today.

The intern will report to the news director and will assist reporters and the assistant news director with research for stories or programs. The newsroom intern will also be asked to write news briefs and learn how to use radio equipment in order to assist reporters in the field or studio. The news director will assign the intern to cover press conferences or events. The intern will also assist the newsroom in posting stories on the web.
