KERA-TV Honored with National Gracie Awards
DALLAS/FORT WORTH – KERA-TV was recently honored with three national Gracie Awards for the documentary series Nowhere But Texas 2. The awards are presented annually by the American Women in Radio and Television (AWRT) and will be presented in New York City at Tavern on the Green on June 4.
Linda Stogner, producer/director/editor, and Therese Powell, producer of the series, received top honors for outstanding achievement in the Portrait/Biography and Outstanding Special categories. Linda Stogner also received an Individual Achievement Award for Outstanding Director in the News Series or Special category. The judges commented, “In a year with many high-quality entries, your submission displayed superior quality in writing, production and programming.”
Nowhere But Texas 2 uses archival footage and current interviews to tell the stories of Texas communities, the people and the circumstances that give them a special place in Texas history. The collection includes the segment Texas Twang about the Big D Jamboree held at Dallas Sportatorium in the 1940s, High Hopes about the Woman Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) training in Sweetwater, Texas during WWII and Mighty Mites about the underdog high school football team of the Masonic Home and School in Fort Worth, Texas that gained national attention in the 1930s under the direction of Coach Rusty Russell.
In addition to Linda Stogner and Therese Powell, the Nowhere But Texas 2 production team includes Rick Thompson, executive producer, Sylvia Komatsu, executive in charge, Bob Perrenot, art director, Tom Pribyl, graphic designer, Mary Beth Boehm, on-line editor and Gila Espinosa, associate producer. The original signature musical score was composed and produced by Mack Price.
