Chief Financial Officer

KERA, the public broadcasting organization for Dallas/Fort Worth, has a unique opportunity for a highly qualified leader to join the Executive Management team as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Reporting to the President and CEO, the CFO assumes a key role in the overall management of the company, overseeing all financial operations. This position serves as the top financial adviser to the President and CEO, Board of Directors and external auditors. In addition to overseeing the Finance department, the CFO leads the Engineering, IT, Underwriting (Corporate Business Development), and Broadcast Operations departments.


Oversee all the accounting, financial and related reporting functions of the organization

  • Prepare and present financial updates to the CEO, senior management and the Board of Directors
  • Manage revenues to achieve a balanced annual organizational budget
  • Manage tax compliance with regard to federal, state and local requirements and respond to regulatory authorities as may be required
  • Ensure timely completion of deliverables to make certain all regulatory, including FCC, and internal reporting requirements are met
  • Ensure organizational compliance with all CPB regulations and required reports
  • Take responsibility for overall fiscal operations, and particularly for long range financial planning and capital expenditures that will impact KERA’s ongoing operations
  • Lead the budgeting process for the organization
  • Interface with the Investment Committee, Financial Committee and Audit Committee of the Board of Directors
  • Oversee long term and short term investments
  • Oversee and assist with software and databases that track and report the Company’s financial position and membership data
  • Meet with department heads to monitor budgets and stay informed of expected cash inflows and outflows and budget variances
  • Monitor compliance with GAAP financial reporting guidelines and stay informed of the most up-to-date pronouncements and regulatory changes that would impact the Company’s financial reporting processes
  • Review and update documentation and enforce internal control policies and procedures related to finance
  • Act as primary liaison with outside counsel on legal matters and review/approve contracts on behalf of the Company
  • Provide leadership for the Technology staff (Engineering, IT, Broadcast), processes and programs
  • Provide leadership for the Database Management staff, processes and programs, including the implementation and maintenance of the CRM system
  • Oversee the Underwriting (Corporate Business Development) process/results which is currently outsourced



 Experience/Knowledge/Skills Requirements:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior financial operations role, with a minimum of 5 years as a CFO
  • Significant experience in working with and presenting to a Board of Directors and related finance, audit and investment committees
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills with the demonstrated ability to write, speak and present in an effective manner
  • Demonstrated track record of creating multi-year financial plans
  • Strategic thinker with exceptional analytical skills
  • Ability to work well with a collegial Executive Management team on day-to-day processes
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including excellent organizational, planning and listening skills
  • Solid management experience and the ability to manage diverse teams with a positive teamwork-oriented approach
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows and MS Office suite

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or business administration
  • CPA  or CPA in process required
  • MBA a plus



  • Experience working in the public broadcasting industry
  • Familiarity with the requirements of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as it relates to public media
  • Familiarity with the requirements of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB)
