Think audio: "America the Beautiful"

By Jerome Weeks | September 5, 2008

Filmmaker Darryl Roberts' documentary, America the Beautiful, follows Americans' obsession with plastic surgery and losing weight to fit the standards set by the fashion industry, Hollywood studios and rather brazen magazine editors, who tell Roberts that if their photo spreads make women hate their bodies — "too bad." On Friday, America the Beautiful opens at the Angelika Film Center. Roberts talks about the "beauty madness" affecting men and women, as well as the manipulations of advertising with Krys Boyd for Think.
