Transforming a Dying Texas Town – Into an Arts Colony

Brooks Gremmels grew up in East Texas, made a fortune and came back to retire. But when he saw the dwindling town of Ben Wheeler, he bought up what he could. He's restoring Ben Wheeler to its 1935 heyday — as in that photo on the right — but he's filling it with custom knifemakers, sculptors and painters. Jerome Weeks reports on our area's newest arts district.

Art&Seek Q&A: James Cope and Cassie Edmondson

Talented artists are a rare breed, so it’s fascinating when two of them flock together and couple up. James Cope, 32, is the Associate Curator at the Goss-Michael Foundation and Cassie Edmondson, 30, teaches drawing and photography at Booker T. Washington High School for the Visual and Performing Arts. He’s British and she’s a Texas gal from Plano. Both are on the same wavelength when it comes to their artistic tastes, except when it comes to television.

Art&Seek on Think TV: Matt Posey and His Crazy, Not-for-Kiddos Puppet Show

Matthew Posey is one of the godfathers of alternative theater in North Texas, having pioneered the Deep Ellum theater scene in the '80s. For the Ochre House, his new storefront effort, Posey has built a new partner, a green-headed, foul-mouthed puppet named Coppertone Jones.
