How about some Flim and the BB’s fom the Tricycle album.
Thanks for bringing so much enjoyment to our Sunday nights.
never heard of them
fantastic!!
I will begin the search
Ah yes that was some good weirdo Nomi
Greezy Wheels: Smooth Operator an Austin group from way back that I know doesn’t get heard enough (at all)
Hey, I searched your past setlists and didn’t see any Ratatat…. check them out. I’ve been digging their album Classics in particular. Good instrumental stuff with slippery synths.
Its funny I was going to suggest the same thing! They have a great song called montanita. hope to hear some…
Hi, Paul,
How about some Morphine from the album The Night?
thanks, some challenging requests
some things are harder to find than others
but I love it all
keep up the suggestions
what did you think of the Florence and the Machine track?
I mistook the Florence and the Machine for Bjork. It was cool.
I’m recommending a song that I don’t know the name of or if it is available in any form except in the movie “The Three Amigos”. You know the one- where Steve Martin, Martin Short and Chevy Chase sit around the campfire singing as the animals chime in.
could it be
“Blue Shadows.” Randy Newman ?

Q: The song they sing during the bat eating campfire…
I dont know it, but perhaps one of our intrepid blogger/listeners will know
Holy mercy – i had this on LP … Steve Miller Band, “Space Cowboy,” – steve miller local artist ?
really, I guess I didnt know that
Dallas or FT Worth?
Hey Paul,
This is a songwriter named Mickey Newbury from the 70’s. Maybe you heard of him, maybe not. Anyways, he’s great.
here is a single track zipfile I made for you. Maybe you’ll play it on the show

Dallas – from wikipedia –> In 1950, the family relocated to Dallas, Texas. While at St. Mark’s School of Texas, Miller formed his first band, The Marksmen. Miller taught classmate William Scaggs — better known later by his nickname Boz — guitar chords so that he could join the band. After leaving St. Mark’s — “I got kicked out,” he recalled with a laugh in a 2004 interview[3] — Miller graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in the Lakewood area of Dallas in 1961. T-Bone Walker visited the Millers and was recorded by Sonny Miller; Steve has said that Walker formed a significant influence on his guitar style.
Paul, my son just reminded me of a wonderful Robert Fripp adventure – the League of Crafty Guitarists. The disc I have is “Show of Hands” and there is a live performance disc out there too. Beautiful vocals too. See what you think…
Mark Scruggs
oh yes
I have not featured any Frippery on my show for quite some time
it will be a pleasure to dig him out and spin him
cheers
Paul,
Can you play some Ali Akbar Khan, the great sarod player who passed away a month ago (exactly a week before MJ)?
Thanks,
Mike
I will see if I can locate some
thanks for a great suggestion
How about some obscure bowie?
And Fishland.
what was the beep beep honk honk song that just came across the airwaves? Was that the Matmos Mr Mouth Supreme Balloon?
Bosque Brown. Beguiling.
Hoyt Axton, Pretty Things ( the old 60’s, 70’s band), Phoebe Snow, Doug Kershaw, NRBQ. Do you prefer just artist names, names and albums, or specific songs?
I will take whatever you got when it comes to suggestions !
Oh, and as a suggestion for helping me out on the odd song, look for Ethel Smith – queen of the Hammond Organists (she was a featured artist) playing her signature tune Tico Tico. She discovered it in argentina listening the back alleys and it was her regret that she didn’t copyright it as it would have made her rich! Always beautifully attired and with a lot of skill you can see her play the chart on youtube.
wild
I just played a version of Tico Tico recently, cant recall who it was though
this sounds very alluring
thanks for the exotic suggestion
cheers
obscure bowie gets played on this show for sure, maybe a nice Bowie/Eno instrumental
yes that was Matmos with the weird bleeps and bonks, pretty cool huh?
(no Ten Hands allowed, sorry)
How about something from Mark Mothersbaugh’s scores for Wes Anderson’s movies.
I think it would be fun to hear some Dixie Chicks since they seem to be on a black list.
I thought that was all in the past
Im not a huge DC fan , but that doesnt matter
I will see if I can find something compelling to play
“Blue Shadows” of course! Thanks hbelknap.
Mickey Newbury- immortalized in the song “Luckenbach, Texas” by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. Remember the line, “Newbury’s train songs” ?
“Gogol Bordello” : SO KEWL !!!
great set tonight .. thanks Paul
Thanks Paul.
The soundtrack to ‘Thin Red Line’ – the Melanesian Choir – haunting and beautiful…

It was a delight to hear that fun blend of music on the radio again, and I will make every effort to catch you on Sunday nights.
