Trees in Deep Ellum

Jason Janik is a professional photographer with a focus on music and performance photography. His images have appeared in Spin, The Dallas Morning News, The New York Times, Quick, F!D Luxe, American Profile Magazine, USA Today, Rolling Stone and countless other publications.

He has also worked with Jive Records, Toucan Cove/Universal Records and several indie labels, providing artists with images for albums and promotions.

However, there were a few years prior to all of this success that got him to where he is today. Fortunately, during his college days, he archived these images on a quickly fading to black Geocities blog.

It’s our lucky day, because Jason has offered-up some photos for us to post here on Art&Seek. So let your mind wander back to a time when the streets of Deep Ellum were full of music lovers, the venues were open and packed and Fry Street Fair was still actually still on Fry Street.

Tuck these under your pillows, because once the Geocities site is gone, these photographs are gone forever, except here at Art&Seek and somewhere buried inside Janik Headquarters. Most of the images here were shot between 1997 and 2003. Some of the bands have come and gone, some still perform to this day.
