Video: ArtCon 5 Artist VET Joins the Art&Seek Studio Tour
The first time I experienced the artwork of local mixed media artist VET, was at the Cedars Open House Tour, more specifically the FuNcTiOn exhibit. VET created a gorgeous black dress, towering at around ten feet or so, woven out of yards and yards of black plastic. It was stunning and I was intrigued.
VET’s studio is a wonderful space in Deep Ellum, in which she shares with three other artists. It’s in this studio, located at 235 Murray Street, that VET creates, designs, recycles and also teaches others to do so.
VET finds ways to reuse and recycle a variety of objects, turning them into works of art. For example, someone once gave her a bag full of shoulder pads, which she in turn transformed into adorable dolls. Then there is the jazz player, a saxophonist made entirely out of transparent plastic and rolls of tape.
Recently VET received an award from the National Endowment of the Arts and worked on a collaborative multi-disciplinary performance and exhibition at the Dallas Museum of Art. She received her Bachelor of Arts and Performance at the University of Texas-Dallas and currently teaches and exhibits throughout the state of Texas.

I have known Vet and her work for several years. She is an inspiration to those around her. She shares her knowledge of the art she creates. Vet continues to educate through her art on the importance of recycling.
Everything VET does is so inspiring. At first glance it is beautiful art. But then, you take a closer look, and, “Oh! My gosh! What IS that?” She’s always an artist first, and that’s what makes her work so incredible.
