In 1960, KERA Channel 13 began broadcasting instructional programs for teachers and students. During those early years the station was known as “The Little Red School House of the Air,” laying the foundation for what is now the public television and radio network that reaches the fourth-largest population area in the country. In honor of the station’s 50th Anniversary, KERA is celebrating with special anniversary programming, an exciting multimedia contest and a celebratory event.

Explore this special section of the site! Learn more about KERA Classics, a compilation of vintage original programming from the KERA archives; KERA Rewind, a multimedia contest for all ages, commemorating favorite KERA moments; and a 50th Anniversary event at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre featuring appearances by Jim Lehrer, Cokie Roberts and Scott Simon. Also, share a favorite KERA memory in our Guest Book. We invite you to reminisce and share with us as we celebrate this historic milestone.
