Little Mexico: El Barrio
“Little Mexico/El Barrio” – The rich cultural heritage of one of Dallas’ oldest neighborhoods is the subject of this half-hour KERA production, which records and preserves some of the history of this important area and the people of Dallas. Prominent Mexican American community leaders interviewed include Pancho Medrano, Catalina Valdez Scott, Abel Sanchez, Gloria Rivas Alvarez, Joe Azcona and Belen Ortega. “Little Mexico/El Barrio” tells the story of the area where individuals and their families settled to begin their new lives after immigrating to the United States from Mexico. Using interviews, archival photographs, home movies and personal memorabilia, this program creates a historical record of this once-thriving community that encompassed what is Pike Park, and the Arts and Historic West End districts. • Watch the documentary
