Why does music play such an important role in our culture? According to former record producer and AandR agent for Columbia Records, Daniel Levitin, the interaction of music and the brain leads to thoughts, feelings, hopes, desires, love and the experience of beauty. Levitin, who now runs the Levitin Laboratory for Musical Perception, Cognition, and Expertise at McGill University, will join us to discuss the effects and importance of music and his book “This Is Your Brain on Music: The Science of a Human Obsession” (Dutton, 2006).
