J. Paul Slavens is host of The Paul Slavens Show, which airs Sundays from 8 to 10 p.m. on KXT 91.7. Prior to moving to KXT in November 2009, Paul hosted KERA’s Sunday night music show 90.1 At Night since 2005, bringing to the long-running program a diverse, seemingly random mix of styles, genres and time periods. Paul is also well known in the North Texas area for his work as a multi-instrumentalist with bands like Ten Hands, the Baptist Generals and Robert Gomez.
Currently, he appears at venues around town where he is joined by an ever-changing array of luminaries such as Jeff Barnes of Brave Combo. Paul takes suggestions from the audience and the band creates full-blown songs on the spot. He is working on a Masters of Composition at the University of North Texas, and his works have been performed at the Dallas Museum of Art, the McKinney Avenue Contemporary and numerous churches, campuses and schools around the area. Paul also works as a a commercial voice-over artist and actor.
