Looking to attend creative virtual workshops for the new year? Here are two events that Nasher Sculpture Center has going on in January.

Stitch ‘n’ Brunch

The Nasher Sculpture Center wants the community to get hooked on yarn. Next weekend, they’ll hold an hour-long workshop for adults (17 +) on all things crochet.

The workshop, called Stitch ‘n’ Brunch 2.0, will be hosted by teacher and loop master Suzuko Davis. She will teach participants the basics of crochet stitching and how to read yarn labels for attendees’ future endeavors with the skill.

Lynda Wilbur, manager of tour and access programs, said the workshop is beginner-friendly and designed to make participants feel welcome.

“We’re all feeling like we want community and yet we’re still in this mode where we’re isolated in our homes, so we’re hoping that people will enjoy the fellowship of others,” Wilbur said. “Hopefully they’ll learn a new skill and friends, virtually, until we can meet in the museum.”

Participants will work on stitch creations while learning about two artists with crochet work in the Nasher collection. Attendees can also bring their favorite brunch food.

It’s limited to 30 people to ensure a close-knit community, so reserve your spot now. Free for members. $10 for non-members.

Art And Music

Next up, is Nasher’s collaboration with the Dallas Public Library called “Art with Friends: Art and Music.”

The one-hour event for elementary-aged children (6-11-years-old.) The Nasher will share works in their collection inspired by music.

During the event, children will participate in a variety of activities and share their ideas with the group.

Next month, they’ll have another collaboration with the Dallas Public Library called “Art with Friends: Art and Love.” It will focus on art inspired by loved ones.

Participants can register for free at the Dallas Public Library site.
