ArtandSeek.net 8

Just like daisies in springtime, the cool events on the Art&Seek calendar are popping up all over the place. Since our staycation theme was so popular last week, we decided it was a subject worth repeating, especially with the bounty of fun adventures for the younger set. Gather up a big bunch of these fun events.

Speaking of flowers, it’s time once again for Dallas Arboretum’s annual Dallas Blooms Festival. This year the garden goes groovy with Flower Power. Each weekend during the festival there will be a different 1960s theme highlighted. This weekend 60s fashion gets a place in the spotlight. Make a flower crown, dress a paper doll, or get a henna tattoo. Guests can also view 1960s fashion on display in the DeGolyer House. Want even more of the 60s experience? Take part in the Hula Hoop contest on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The Family Campfire this Saturday at Lewisville Learning Environmental Learning Area is a chance to experience all the fun parts of camping without actually having to go camping. You and the littles can snuggle up around the campfire, sing songs, make s’mores, watch the sunset and the stars come out. And of course, because no camping experience is complete without snakes, Sharon Barr, aka, the Snake Lady will be on hand to give a presentation about the importance of snakes. She’ll have a few of her snake friends along for you to meet. The cost is $10 and registration is required by 11 a.m. on Friday, the day before the campfire.

If it’s out-of-the-ordinary fun you’re after, you don’t have to look any further than downtown Mansfield this Saturday. That’s where you’ll find the 2017 World’s Only St. Paddy’s Pickle Parade and Palooza. Technically the 6th annual event takes place the day AFTER St. Patrick’s Day, but don’t tell anyone in the pickle capital of Texas that. The parade portion of the event is a two-parter. There’s a pet parade at noon, followed by the headliner parade at 1 p.m. This year’s theme is “Need More Kowbell” and will feature more than 90 floats, the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, and, of course, the World Famous Mansfield Pickle Queens who will lead the parade with their red hair and big smiles. The Palooza portion of the festivities includes a free concert with Asleep at the Wheel, pie-eating, pickle eating and pickle juice drinking contests, and a community stage with local acts. There will also be tons of activities for the littles like bounce houses, a petting zoo, and face painting.
