In the 1840s, women across the United States began the long and tiresome journey to securing the inalienable right to vote. The 19th amendment was passed by Congress in June of 1919 and officially ratified in August of 1920. 2020 marks the 100th anniversary since women secured this right.

The Allen Public Library will be celebrating this momentous occasion through storytelling.

Elizabeth Ellis, an internationally acclaimed storyteller, will be sharing the stories of the many women who fought for this right in a free virtual concert on August 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the City of Allen’s website. During the show, audience members can submit questions via email.

On September 10 at 7:30 p.m., Dr. Mark Louden, author and Germanic Linguistics Professor, will discuss Amish history at a free live virtual program on the City of Allen’s website. During the show, audience members can submit questions via email.

Discuss and learn about the mechanics of bird photography with the award-winning bird photographer, Randall Patterson in a free virtual event. This live event will be available live at 7:30 p.m. on September 17th on the City of Allen’s website. During the show, audience members can submit questions via email.
