Dress Up Like Frida Kahlo For Attempt At Guinness Record

ArtandSeek.net 23

Next Thursday, famed Mexican artist Frida Kahlo will have turned 110, and the Dallas Museum of Art is throwing a birthday bash of surreal proportions in her honor.

  • Celebrate Frida Kahlo’s birthday Thursday from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Dallas Museum of Art’s Frida Fest.
  • Help the DMA reach their record. Register here.

Your ticket in? Don a unibrow, flower crown, and long floral skirt. Alright, you don’t have to come dressed as Frida, but you’ll feel out of place in a pair of jeans because the DMA will be vying to set a Guinness world record for “the largest gathering of people dressed as Frida Kahlo in one place” during the festivities.

Frida fans interested in participating in the record attempt will have to follow a dress code:

  • A unibrow drawn onto the face joining the eyebrows
  • Artificial flowers worn in the hair; a minimum of three artificial flowers must be worn
  • A red or pink shawl
  • A flower-printed dress that extends to below the knees on all sides; the dress must not have any slits up the side

The event is expected given the popularity of the DMA’s exhibition of Mexican art, which the museum says has set record attendance numbers since it opened in March. Frida’s paintings are featured prominently in México 1900-1950: Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, José Clemente Orozco, and the Avant-Garde, including one of her most notable works Las dos Fridas.

While you’re there, enjoy a $6 discount to the México exhibition, a complimentary touch-up from makeup line Reina Rebelde, and a performance from Dallas Black Dance Theatre.

Frida Fest, which the DMA is hosting in collaboration with the Latino Center for Leadership Development, takes place Thursday, July 6 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. The record attempt will take place in the Horchow Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
