- In Dallas’ refugee-rich Vickery Meadow neighborhood, there’s a group of artists determined to change the conversation around women and race. In Art&Seek’s weekly look at the State of the Arts in North Texas, KERA’s Stephanie Kuo reports that these young female artists aren’t letting age stand in their way.
- Edyka Chilomé is a 26-year-old spoken word artist who’s trying to make her art full-time. She travels between Dallas and Washington D.C. – where her family lives. And in this week’s Artist Spotlight, reporter Jessica Diaz Hurtado shows us how the poet fights the challenges in her life.

- Big wave surfers are athletic, have incredible balance and practice for years to reach the top of their sport. Those traits are also common among dancers. This week, “The Big Screen” team talked with Emilie Skinner, artistic director of Dallas Neo-Classical Ballet, whose latest work is inspired by surf culture and classic movies.
Dallas is writing a new cultural plan and they are mobilizing members of the community.
- The City of Dallas is drafting a new cultural plan. But what should it focus on? Cultural equity? Arts education? Financial support for artists? Everything’s on the table. Art&Seek attended the first two public meetings that were hosted by the Office of Cultural Affairs and it appears that there are a lot of parties whose voices need to be heard.
