Drive-in movies and concerts are officially back. But now, North Texas will have its first drive-in air show experience.
On Oct. 17, The Bell Fort Worth Alliance Air Show will return to celebrate its 30th anniversary. The show will continue on Oct. 18.
Christina Carey, director of special projects for Alliance Air Production, said the COVID-19 pandemic has provided a unique opportunity to be innovative with the air show.
“It will be different, of course,” Carey said. “…But the show is set to be fun, interactive with commentary from our air show announcers with new and exciting additions.”
Each vehicle will be spaced into a 20-by-20 marked area, identified as a “family pod.” Guests will be able to watch the show from the comfort of their vehicle and listen on an FM frequency or watch the show outside of their vehicle. Guests will also be treated with goodie bags.
A new addition to the air show will be a vehicle parade with local guests and performers.
Carey said given the circumstances, the air show will now let people bring their own coolers of food and drinks. There will also be concessions on-site by credit or debit card. No cash will be accepted.
This year, the event will allow 3,500 visitors each day. All must wear a mask unless in a vehicle or another special circumstance.
The tradition is one of the largest, longest-running civilian air shows in the nation. It received first place for Best Air Show in the 2020 USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards.
“When we create the air show we keep in mind creating an exciting, memorable event for guests,” Carey said. “And seeing the kids that come and they’re excited to be a part of the action and get to see military performers. That’s one of the things that’s near and dear to all of our hearts — to provide that opportunity to engage and inspire the future generation to explore a career in aviation.”
Tickets are on sale now for $40.
