Here’s Your Guide To Fort Worth Gallery Night
ArtandSeek.net September 10, 2021 21Fort Worth Gallery Night is back. That means one big day – and evening – of gallery hopping, this Saturday, September 11.
“Gallery Night is not just about sales. It is about reengaging with the community,” said Shea Patterson Young, curator of the Atrium Gallery at UNT Health Science Center. Young’s also the executive director of the art dealers’ association.
“We welcome anyone who is just interested in exploring the art scene in Fort Worth . . . Some people kind of think that it’s an elitist activity, but it’s meant to be an activity where we welcome all who are interested.”
Twice a year the Fort Worth Art Dealers Association (FWADA) invites the public to take the time to discover, or rediscover, the many visual art spaces in Fort Worth. During the pandemic, Spring and Fall Gallery Night, morphed into longer Gallery Weeks to ensure smaller crowds. But Saturday, the one-day tradition returns.
Here are just a few participating galleries:
- Artes de la Rosa has a reception with artist talks from 3-6 p.m.
- Artspace111 will have live music and a food truck from 4:30-8:30 p.m.
- Atrium Gallery at UNT Health Science Center has watercolor demonstrations starting at 2:30 p.m.
- Fort Works Art – Fall Gallery Night is Fort Works Art grand reopening. There’s an opening reception for Austin Uzor’s New Meanings exhibition.
- Fort Worth Community Arts Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m with exhibitions and a Make and Take with Art Room event.
- Sid Richardson Museum in Sundance Square is now open by reservation.
- SiNaCa Studios has live demonstrations from 6-9 p.m.
- The Art Galleries at TCU, both Moudy and Contemporary, are welcoming the public back on campus.
And some tips for a fun and efficient Gallery Night:
Party Bus: You might still be able to snag a ticket on the Party Bus sponsored by the arts collective Art Tooth. The bus will stop at six spots and end the tour at the new Hotel Dryce for their Gallery Night Post-Chill.
Mask up: Bring your mask. Some venues require them.
Grab a guide: Want to venture out with just a couple of pals? Young recommends you pick up FWADA’s gallery guide in advance and see what interests you the most. Print copies of the guide are at various gallery locations. It lists all the participating galleries, exhibition information, links, and hours.
The digital version of the guide on FWADA’s website has the most up-to-date information so make it easy on yourself and just download the digital guide.
RSVPs: Fall Gallery Night events are free. But some venues may require RSVPs for receptions.
Watch the clock: Another thing you’ll want to note is the gallery hours. Fall Gallery Night hours are from noon to 9 p.m. but some venues opt to keep their regular hours so be sure to check the guide before you head out.
The guide also has a handy dandy map. “Sometimes it’s fun to go to one place that you weren’t necessarily thinking about,” said Young. “And if you look at that map, you get an idea of what is in the neighborhoods.” So go explore.
