The Dallas Opera has decided not to take any immediate action about a future performance by Placido  Domingo. The 78-year-old opera superstar has been accused of sexual harrassment by eight singers and a dancer, according to The Associated Press. He is scheduled to perform in Dallas next March at the Winspear Opera House.

Known worldwide as a towering figure in classical music who crossed over into popular culture with his performances in The Three Tenors, Domingo has won 14 Grammys and held major directing positions – including with the Los Angeles Opera, which he helped found. That company announced it’s launching an independent investigation. Domingo issued a statement denying all the allegations.

In Dallas, general director Ian Derrer told the opera company’s staff, board and trustees that they would await further developments but the company was committed to providing a safe working environment for its employees, artists and volunteers. The Metropolitan Opera in New York said that it too would await developments before deciding on Domingo’s scheduled performance there in Verdi’s ‘Macbeth.’ But The Philadelphia Orchestra withdrew its invitation to Domingo to perform at its season-opening gala next month.
