Wiley College

Wiley College was named in honor of the late Bishop Issac T. Wiley who was a minister, medical missionary, and educator. Wiley College was founded in 1873 south of Marshall, Texas. Despite Jim Crow laws and treacherous times for blacks the college moved nearer to Marshall instead of farther away. The college remains standing today in the exact location of 55 acres that was acquired during the relocation in 1880.
